Project 77 (Environmental) Ltd provide a wide range of odour control filter technologies from the comprehensive range of filters with proven odour removal efficiencies and incorporate these in ventilation and odour extract/abatement systems to conform to the stringent emission legislation imposed by the planning authorities with regard to the release of odorous gases, VOCs and industrial pollutants over a wide range of industries and processes.

The technologies available are

  • Dry scrubbing which utilises impregnated carbon, activated carbon together with special blends and grades to suit specific applications.
  • Wet scrubbing which uses the Odorgard technology originally developed by ICI which allow single tower scrubbing to achieve the same efficiencies and odour reduction as normal two or three tower systems.

Principle of Operation

The Odorgard system requires normally only one tower which uses sodium hypochlorite and caustic soda, with conventional scrubbing towers requiring up to three separate towers using acid sodium hypochlorite and caustic soda for the three stages of removal.

The principle of the Odorgard system is that the circulating solution is passed through the Odorguard’s nickel catalyst which activates the oxygen and hypochlorite solution, this result in oxygen now being more available for breaking down the odorous components. The reaction time is rapid, allowing little opportunity for side reactions. A further advantage is that the waste products from the chemical reactions are completely non-hazardous and can normally be discharged into a land drain.

The addition of chemicals by the dosing pumps is fully automatic and can respond rapidly to sudden increases in odour challenge.

Retrofit conversions

Existing/hypochlorite scrubbers can often be retro fitted with an Odorgard package; this will result in the immediate reduction of chemical consumption costs and improvement in odour efficiency removal. Typically the cost of the conversion could be recovered within the first 12 months of operation.
